  I'm curious- why 'god'?

  i know how i got sucked into the b0rg- i was a very spiritual, very young and very emotionally damaged 19 year old (raised in a violent on all levels home, the usual stuff) who was having- and had always had- a lot of 'supernatural' experiences that had caused my mother to declare me 'evil' (and try to get me exorcised on the odd occasion).

  i'd become confused and was trying to work out if these things were, in fact, a sign of my rejection from 'god'.

  if i'd known then what i know now about the christian god, i'd have told the jw's to stick it.

  Good post.

  I read some shunning articles from WT and KM that my dad sent me to tell me why 'the Bible says' he can't contact me. To be fair, I read all the verses in the online bible on the JW site, since we don't own one any longer. In fact, I read several chapters to make sure I got it, and I concluded that the bible is anti-family; I read a lot and I found coldness and exclusivity and it was ever more of a turnoff. St. Paul was the worst, with his belief that believers are superior--that's all I get from him. No where do I find in the bible anything to support my side-that family should come first and be stronger and more loyal to one another than any other bond, instead, Jesus came to divide families and all that rot. There may be an overall feeling of love and stuff, but I don't find it on an individual level from the writers except where believers are concerned.

  Need help, Circuit Assembly question

  my wife has a part in the upcoming 2 day ca.

  now, i haven't been there in close to 10 years so my memory is a little sketchy.. from my memory, the only parts a sister would have would be a talk in the ministry school section or an experience.

  Huh, she hasn't told you? Not even a 'I got the part, I got the part!!' squeal? If you asked her what it's about exactly, that would be good--she'd have to rewrite it if it's too negative about you. If it's not, or if she hides the fact that it is (a.k.a. lies) tell her you'd like to be there to hear her speak, you know, to be supportive; see if she shitzels herself.

  to everyone who is part of this forum.. i won't be on here for a while as i am seperating from my wife.

  i have found a place with a workmate.. thanks for your comments and support through difficult times.

  i am starting a new chapter in my life.. jw's have "destroyed" my life and seperated me from my friends and family.

  Remember when assemblies were fun?

  i just remembered when i was a kid and we would go to the assembly, it was fun because we got to buy new clothes and put extra effort into looking good.

  when we would get there you could save your seats and even save some for your friends, then go off looking for them.. i used to love our circuit assembly because of the food.

  it was at the assembly hall and there was a big kitchen, some of my favourite brothers worked in that kitchen, sometimes i was allowed to go in and help.

  We loved cooking and prepping food for 2 days beforehand and during, it was the best fun ever.

  The D.O. gave some 'good' advice regarding the internet at the Assembly

  the d.o.

  gave us some really good advice at this weeks circuit assembly, he was talking about the dangers of the internet, he gave the usual warnings about teenagers meeting strangers or apostates, and dating websites.. but this time he also told the patents in the audience that there is software available which can monitor every website that is visited and everything that is typed on the computer, i was shocked, he was advising the parents to spy on their children, i suppose it might be ok if the child is 10yo but what if he or she is late teens, and they discover that their parents have spied on them, imagine how that will spilt the family, and for what?

  the cure is worst then the problem.. its simple a case of the wts being paranoid of the interent and they want no one on it..

  Mimi's Surgery

  i've gotten a few pm's asking how mimi is doing after her surgery so i decided to make this topic and post some pictures of her.

  for those of you that don't know mimi is my italian greyhound and she had a chronic ear infection that would not clear up.

  the vet decided that the best course of action was surgery.

  i cant believe after 20 years of not being a jw that i found this site.. if anyone is willing to read this, and has any knowledge on the subject, i dont want to hate my father.

  i am looking for biblical proof that shunning your family is ok, if it exist.

  Hi dear, thank you so much for sharing your life's experience, we're all going down that road with our families in one way or another. Your reasoning is spot-on and completely scriptural and level-headed.

  KWR made a great point which I recently told my dad, almost word for word: Paul was speaking his opinion, and when he did this he was usually wrong. It was Paul who was 'rebuked before them all' for not associating with certain ones by Peter, my dad told me this to explain how the GB can be wrong, but when I turned that around to make the point that KWR did and the fact that Paul was showing racism and practicing shunning, I was in the wrong.

  When I said that yes, those scriptures counsel Christians against close association with certain types of people, but they are 2 verses taken out of the whole LOVE LOVE LOVE context of the Bible, just like we were taught that God has 4 main attributes, if he lacked one of them like LOVE, we'd be dead, per the WT. If He only had justice and power, we'd be toast, so if JWs only practice the shunning of family members because it's just and wise in their eyes and abstain from the LOVE. . .you get the point, I was wrong again.

  Then I read the WT and KM articles my dad sent me and I looked up every scripture and read the context of each, and there's no way I would have come to the same conclusion he did without the 'Faithful Slave' telling me to hate my family, hence it's a cult. There's no winning with people who are under control of this mind numbing cult.

  Do you still pray?

  i was wondering about this the other day before i went to sleep, out of habit and my spiritual beliefs now, i spoke to the spiritual realm above and asked for guidance and protection.. i remember my journey of leaving the jw "borg" (a new term i have picked up here - i like it!

  ) and at first i refused to pray at all, and then i wasn't sure i wanted to or not, and then i developed my own sense of the higher power above and spirituality and every night before i sleep, i feel blessed to have another day of life, to do it all again.

  even on days when i am not having such a good day, i take time to ask the higher realm for strength and direction.

  I do not. If there's a God, I'm annoyed with him. Every once in a while I get really pissed and say 'sweet & sour baby Jesus'. That's as close to prayer as I get.

  I can't separate 'need for spirituality' from being a Hoho with all its obsessive godliness and divine hatred for others.
